About ETTA
Etta Pictures is an ITV Studios company headed by Jeff Pope MBE. An Academy Award nominated writer and producer, Jeff began his career as a journalist and has worked on over 100 hours of broadcast drama. He has been nominated for eleven BAFTA Film & TV awards and won two including Best Adapted Screenplay in 2013 for Philomena (starring Dame Judi Dench and Steve Coogan) as well as receiving a Special BAFTA for his contribution to television in 2015. He has over twenty other awards nominations including an Oscar, Golden Globe and RTS award, and has won a British Screenwriters' Award and Broadcasting Press Guild Award among others. He was awarded an MBE for services to drama in 2025.
Alongside fellow award-winning writer and frequent collaborator Neil McKay, he is often credited with establishing the genre of factual drama in British television and his work is repeatedly recognised in the press for its sensitivity, compassion and accuracy, with a review in The Observer calling his series A Confession (starring Martin Freeman) “A masterclass in understated excellence”.
Etta has acquired a reputation over many years for focusing on thought-provoking and sometimes difficult-to-tackle subjects that illuminate the public’s understanding of sensitive issues. We have previously made award-winning dramas such as Appropriate Adult (starring Dominic West and Emily Watson), The Moorside (starring Sheridan Smith) and Little Boy Blue. More recently we have made The Walk-In (starring Stephen Graham) and Four Lives (starring Stephen Merchant and Sheridan Smith) for ITV and the BBC respectively, and at the end of 2023 we produced both the Cary Grant drama Archie (starring Jason Isaacs) for ITVX and Britbox and The Reckoning (starring Steve Coogan) for the BBC. In 2025, Disney+ aired our critically acclaimed four part drama Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles De Menezes.
