Inside Media Track
From Headmaster’s daughter to wife of a criminal, the story of Charmian Biggs’ marriage to an infamous fugitive is a moving tale of dishonour, deception and love. The Great Train Robbery of 1963 was the crime of the decade, making gang member Ronnie Biggs infamous. Forced to choose between her disapproving family and the man she loved, Charmian chose Ronnie. Despite the promises he made to her, he returned to a life of crime. Ronnie was arrested and imprisoned for his involvement in the heist but, unable to face the sentence, Ronnie escaped and the couple fled to Australia. There they began a new life, which for Charmian would ultimately lead to tragedy and betrayal.
